We’re not Scientists, Nutritionists, or Veterinarians.

We didn’t start out with the idea to build a supplement company. We’re just people who saved our own horses’ lives using a combination of natural, whole, foods that we hoped could help others too.

Now, we proudly offer a line of products backed by published research and veterinary-led trials.

Every day, new people reach out to us in total frustration and heartache. They’ve tried so many things and spent more money than they can count, and their horses aren’t getting better.

We’ve been there too.

Just like you, we’ve experienced the love and heartbreak that comes with horses. Seeing your 4-legged partner suffer with chronic health issues is agonizing.

We’ve sat with them day and night through colic, and watched them struggle to walk on laminitic hooves caused by insulin resistance or other metabolic dysfunction.

We’ve dealt with all of this, and learned from it.

History

G’s Today

G’s Organic Solutions

What started with one sick horse, is now a nearly full line-up of beneficial products for both horses and dogs. “Nearly full” because Sandi and Nelli are far from done!

They continue to research foods and combinations of ingredients that will improve equine and canine nutrition and solve problems. And they are always interested in, and often inspired by the horse journeys of their customers and social media followers.

2007

Love at first sight

The first time they met, the 17 hand bright bay Hannoverian named Giotto was as taken with Nelli as she was with him. Their connection was instant and obvious to all involved. G’s personality was equal parts ‘teddy bear’ and ‘firecracker’, which suited Nelli perfectly!

But he had a bit of a runny nose…

2011

It’s just a little bit of snot

That runny nose had been going on since G arrived from Germany in 2007. Was it a cold? An infection of sorts? Many tests were done and G’s list of medications grew.

Instead of getting better, G’s health slowly got worse. Multiple medications and whatever illness he had put his gastrointestinal system under extreme stress. Frequent bouts of diarrhoea and colic were routine occurrences.

By 2011, riding, training, or showing were out of the question for Nelli and G.

2013

A Devastating Turn

That snotty nose took a nasty turn when G suddenly blew a huge abscess from his nose! Diagnosed with a rotten tooth, he was whisked into surgery.

Veterinarians were shocked to find G’s entire sinus cavity covered in abscesses. A quick procedure to extract a tooth became a 6-hour marathon. The stress of the long surgery and anaesthesia, followed by months of intense antibiotic treatment wreaked havoc on G’s already distressed system.

His once shimmering coat was dull, and his feet became tender with mild laminitis. Nelli and Sandi could hardly bear to watch G’s agonizing deterioration. They considered whether it was time to end his pain.

2015

Time to simplify

“Everything changed for us when we realized that the food, supplements, and medications we were giving to our own beautiful horse were actually hurting, not helping him,” recalls Sandi. “As a last-ditch effort, I took G off all his medications, supplements, and anything processed.”

One by one, she offered various organic, whole, foods to G - foods that were known to help heal the GI tract - foods people might not consider feeding to a horse, such as cabbage and hemp.

2016

A brand is born

“We offered each food to G. Some he snubbed, others he ate enthusiastically!” says Sandi. “When he found an ingredient he liked, we figured he knew best what he needed.”

Little by little, G’s health began to improve, and “G’s Formula” was born. “It’s what we called it,” laughs Nelli. “Each day, each feeding, we’d say, let’s go give G his special formula!”

But horse friends who’d watched Sandi and Nelli’s struggle with G were eager to try it too. As they saw results with their own horses, they pushed Sandi to sell G’s Formula to the public, saying, “You need to share this with other horse people too! Imagine how many horses you could save with G’s Formula!”

2018

WIRX

“Back in 2008, we lost another beautiful horse, Liam, to complications from IR,” says Sandi. “There were no “natural” treatment options, and only a few pharmaceuticals - none of which were particularly effective or safe long term.”

Though Liam was gone, Sandi had never stopped looking for something that could help IR and EMS horses. Seeing the effects of G’s Formula renewed her energy.

“One of our G’s Formula food suppliers mentioned that there happened to be an abundant local supply of cranberry. I recalled seeing, at one time, a research paper where they used cranberry on IR rats.” Read that and other research in our Education Centre.

“There were also discussions going on in various forums about using cinnamon for IR horses,” Sandi recalls. After more research, and field trials with a local veterinarian, G’s WIRX was added to the product line.

G’S TEAM

SANDI

Growing up in the BC interior, Sandi’s true love for horses started on her family farm. Her father bred Morgans, and Sandi spent her days horseback in the hills, and her evenings caring for them in the stalls. She was a successful 3-day eventer and received her Pony Club level B certificate. Sandi went to school to become a veterinarian but opted for a degree in Animal Health Technology, instead.

Sandi has seen her share of horses with unusual health problems. Losing Liam to Equine Metabolic Syndrome (EMS, aka “insulin resistance”), and almost losing G pushed Sandi back into researcher-mode, re-igniting her passion for animal health and helping horses thrive through a natural approach to nutrition.

NELLI

Nelli’s first pony, Sophie, instilled her love of horses. They rose through the Pony Club levels and competed in Hunter Jumpers and Dressage. As a teenager, Nelli could be found sleeping in the stall with her 3-Day Eventing partner, Suzie, or teaching horsemanship skills to younger Pony Club members. With aspirations of competing at the highest levels of Dressage, Nelli found the perfect partner in her next horse, Giotto (aka “G”).

Today, Suzie and G are both happily retired. Nelli brings her love of horses and passion for helping other people to G’s Organic Solutions, working side-by-side with Sandi to make and market these amazing products.

G’s Team Riders are essential to our mission to help horses live longer, healthier, more comfortable lives. They are our customers, our friends, often our inspiration, and sometimes our biggest critics.

Our Team Riders are independent thinkers - professional riders who are health conscious and open-minded. They bring us health problems, work with us to find solutions, and are instrumental in helping us trial new products.
